How to choose the right mattress?
The choice of your mattress is very important and is not to be taken lightly; it will accompany you for many nights. During our lifetime we spend a third of our time on our mattresses. Having goodbedding sets is the guarantee of a restful sleep to evacuate the fatigue of the day. It provides support for your spine, the shape and health of your back depends mainly on it, the best bedding will be the one you feel good on.
Here are some tips to help you make your choice
What technology? Professionals are unanimous that a mattress should be changed at most every 10 years. No need to remember precisely the year you bought your bedding. Listen to your body. If stiffness and back pain appeared when you woke up, it is because your mattress is no longer doing its job. Also take a look at how it looks. Visible hollows, sagging of the whole, there is no more hesitation to have, your bedding has had its day, it is high time to change it.
The different types of mattresses (core of the mattress):There are 3 main mattress technologies:
– latex
– the foam
– Springs.
There is no technology better than another, each one responds to specific habits, needs and morphology.
The latex mattress
The main advantage of latex is its comfort. Made from rubber, its material offers exceptional elasticity and therefore a very good sleeping accommodation as well as very good resistance to time. Undeform able, the latex mattress goes through the years without suffering too much from the ravages of time. 100% latex mattresses have a long lifespan. Natural or synthetic, the latex mattress benefits from hypoallergenic qualities that make it the preferred choice for people prone to allergies. It is generally recommended for people with back problems. Perforated or dimpled, the latex mattress has very good ventilation and manages humidity very well. For one or two people, it offers good support precision made possible by a high density.
The foam mattress
Polyurethane, high resilience, shape memory, there are different types of foam. They all have one thing in common: to offer great support on condition of having a density greater than 35 kg / m. For this, high resilience HR / HD foams must be favored, which have better flexibility and comfort, are more resistant over time and remains the most affordable technology for all. Densities lower 35 Kg / m are suggest for kids or adult weighing less than 60 Kg, your mattress will be of a good quality / price and with less longevity. Note that the higher the density, the better your comfort will be. Another advantage of foam mattresses is their weight, they are lighter than latex or spring models, they are easier to handle and move.
The springs mattress
This is the most common type of mattress in France. Naturally ventilated, cushioning body movements, they are particularly recommended for people who sweat a lot at night. Here again, several technologies come together: biconical springs, pocket springs, continuous wire springs. The biconical springs provide dynamic and very progressive support. They are particularly suitable for large people or those who want dynamic comfort. Pocket springs in particular by their large number of springs, by their sleeping independence (each spring reacts individually) and by their differentiated support zones are to be recommended particularly for people who move a lot during their sleep. Continuous wire springs,
Other elements
Another element and not the least the reception. To understand what this element corresponds to, just lie down on your mattress. Your body is then in contact with the reception. It is therefore the part that surrounds the foam, latex or springs. Your first impression depends on its quality. Soft, firm, sweet, there are different types. Everything is a question of the nobility of the materials (wool, cashmere, cotton) and the thickness of the reception.
Thickness A minimum of 14 cm thick is required to make the most of the virtues of a mattress. From 14 to 20 cm, you can take advantage of the ideal thickness to easily turn it over. Another advantage of a medium thickness mattress: you no longer have to struggle with the fitted sheet to put it on the mattress.
The choice of the box spring The box spring has a role of “shock absorber” If the mattress supports 2/3 of the mechanical forces imposed on the bedding by the weight and movements of the sleeper, the base supports the remaining 1/3. To choose a bed base correctly, know that it must be firm to absorb the weight of the sleeper without deformation and serve as a support for the mattress. It must also be perfectly flat, neither hollow nor rounded so as not to deform the mattress. In addition, the box spring prolongs the life of the mattress, promotes its ventilation and therefore the hygiene of the bedding. The box spring must be adapted to the mattress. It is good advice to change it at the same time. There are two main families of box springs: Solid wood box springs with rigid slats Flexible box springs Good ventilation We lose an average of 40cl of water (average loss of water quantity per night). It is therefore necessary that the mattress is ventilated. While the spring mattress is naturally ventilated, it is also one of the specific characteristics of foam (alveolar) and latex that it promotes air circulation. The more ventilated the mattress, the more moisture will be expelled. The bedding will therefore remain healthy for longer.
I choose a relaxation set called TPR(Head and Foot Lift) and generally electric, the relaxation sets guarantee the individual positioning of each mattress. Each has its own box spring and mattress, which can even adapt the density of the mattress to the morphology of the sleeper. Relaxation sets allow you to read or watch TV very comfortably, but also to relieve heavy legs by slightly raising the end of the bed independently of the other person. The relaxation sets with 5 sleeping planes and electric guarantee a precise and very comfortable fit. The choice of mattress is still possible, a foam or latex mattress makes it easy to adapt to the movements of the electric box spring. What comfort? For one or two people, for adults or for children, each use has its own mattress.
Sleeping independence
Sleeping independence is the ability of a mattress to absorb the movements you make while you sleep. Knowing that a person turns 30 to 40 times a night (60 to 80 movements for two), you can easily imagine the importance of this criterion. Several options are available to you. Opt for a high density mattress. This guarantees you a good cushioning of your movements and those of your partner. Another solution: choose not one but two mattresses. Like hotel bedding, you can combine your two single mattresses on a two-seater base and thus enjoy real sleeping independence.
Strong build
Balance, firm or very firm, the question arises. Contrary to popular belief, the choice does not depend on your desires but on your body type. Tall and thin, you will need a so-called balanced mattress. Understand by this a medium density mattress. To check that your back is properly supported, all you need to do is run one hand under your lower back. If a hollow has formed in your back, the mattress is too firm. Conversely, if you have a more imposing size, you should favor firm and very firm mattresses. Their high density guarantees you the best support. If you and your partner are not at all the same build, then again, choosing two independent mattresses is the solution. Everyone can then opt for the mattress adapted to their own morphology.
Mattress sizes
Each mattress comes in different sizes.
1-person mattress therefore measures 90 190 cm as standard.
Two-person mattress. 140 190 cm, 160 200 cm and even 180×200 cm for the older ones, it’s up to you to see what you prefer, depending on the space you have and the desired comfort. Allergies / Backache Most coverings and / or mattress fabrics are now treated against dust mites and bacteria. Choose latex models, known for their hypoallergenic properties. If you suffer from a back problem, the mattress with differentiated support zones should be considered.
Multi-support , it offers up to 5 zones of reinforcement, from head to toe, including back, pelvis and legs. Better supported, your body relaxes without tension. To you serene and restful nights.
Focus on … pocket springs
Sleeping support and independence, with pocket springs you benefit from a multi-criteria solution. Individually wrapped in the heart of the mattress, these springs offer maximum comfort by providing support that is adapted and independent to the different areas of your body. To be preferred especially if you sleep two.
Focus on … memory foam
Viscoelastic foam or called memory foam, it brings effective relief to back pain, both in the public domain and in the medical field reacts to body heat and molds to your body shape while providing good support. It is applied as a direct welcome layer or under the classic filling, in which case it also offers very good coating independence. Originally created by NASA to alleviate the pressure undergone by astronauts during takeoff, this very high-density polyurethane foam adapts perfectly to your morphology, reduces pressure points by density ranging from 50Kg / m at 80 Kg / m and thus improves the quality of sleep. A mattress topper yes or no? .In addition to the fact that the mattress topper protects and extends the life of your mattress by providing an almost tailor-made reception (latex / shape memory / foam / synthetic fibers) according to your size, weight, morphology, it especially allows you to adjust sleeping firmness by making it more or less soft according to your taste. The mattress topper provides additional comfort for more restful nights. Easy to maintain, it fits very easily on your mattress. What maintenance?
10 years, that’s been 3650 nights. So that your mattress goes through the years in the best conditions, a few simple steps should be taken. As you have certainly noticed, most mattresses today have a summer side and a Winter side. No need to sleep in June on the winter side, you risk sweating excessively. So don’t forget to turn your mattress twice a year. You thus benefit from an optimal reception. Also remember to reverse the head and feet at least twice a year. This guarantees you a more even wear of the mattress. Another essential element, the mattress protections. The ales is placed on the mattress, under the fitted sheets. It constitutes an additional layer of protection. Perspiration, leaks, condensation, humidity, it manages everything and is easy to maintain in the machine.
