Social Media and How It Has Changed Recruitment
by
Martyn Wentworth
Social media is the popular thing nowadays; everybody has a profile on a networking site. These profiles can feature dozens of pictures, songs, and of course information like where you went to school or where you are currently working.
Potential employers often ask for your social media profile now along with a resume. They want to see how social you are, and things that you are into. But as technology and social media seem to the way of the world now, is it all simply too good to be true?
Social media sites can be the reason you may get the call back or the same reason you don\’t get the call back from that potential employer. It all depends upon you. If your profile has dozens of pictures of you partying hard from the night before then they may think you are irresponsible, or if your profile contains obscene words and gestures that could also hurt you. In a world where online recruitment for jobs is seemingly very popular what you post online is very important when looking for jobs at the same time, stay positive, don t swear on your posts, delete inappropriate posts and never put anything about the people you are interviewed by.
Although, it can be a good thing if the potential job is all about your beauty or looks depending on your looks having albums upon albums filled with pictures on a networking site could possibly be a good thing. Modelling agencies have profiles and search the social media sites daily to find the new face of the company or the brand. Many models and actors put themselves out there in this way to be found by potential agencies.
When you are sending out resumes to big corporations and businesses they will of course check your profiles on social media sites. It is how they can get to know more about you before calling you in for the interview. So when looking for online recruitment always display yourself in a positive way, let your profile reflect you completely.
Be careful about what you post on the media sites, badmouthing anyone such a current employer or previous employer will get you overlooked in this business. Also being a bully and cyber fighting will get your name thrown out quickly. Online recruiters are looking for people whose social media sites seem to portray them in a good light, such as having a good work ethic, a social life with good friends and genuinely being just a positive person.
Social media does not seem to be going anywhere any time soon, so you must always adapt. If you have posts on your profile that you think may keep you from getting that new job, than more than likely you are correct. So when posting anything online such as pictures, comments always remember your new employer could be reading or viewing this posting right now.
